about HH’s Story

Rhode Islanders WE Welcome you

Rhode Island may be ranked among the top ten worst states to start a local business—cited for its small size, high utility costs, and slow permitting processes. Yet, every major national junk removal franchise thrives here. Does that mean it’s too late for a truly local startup to break through? Only time will tell.

At Handsome Haulers, we love Rhode Island and are proud to call this close-knit community our home. Here, everyone is connected in some way, and that’s precisely why we believe Rhode Island is the perfect place to build a local, independent business with big personality and handsome hardworking local men. A small state with a big heart, as we like to say.

We challenge our neighbors and fellow small business owners to join us in proving these studies wrong. Support a local junk removal company that’s dedicated not just to clearing out your clutter, but to building a name that gives back to our community. Together, we can show that Rhode Island is truly a special place where local businesses with charisma and commitment thrive. Let’s honor Rhode Island’s founder Roger Williams by reigniting the spark of hope within the minds of today’s young, like-minded entrepreneurs. Embracing his spirit of innovation and independence, where we encourage a new generation to thrive on their own personal and professional merits. At Handsome Haulers, we see this drive reflected in every bold step taken so far to build this business and share our story. Together, let’s cultivate an environment where ambition meets opportunity, turning challenges into innovative solutions that pave the way for success, sustainability and community supported love. In return we will build trust through transparency and share every step pf the process along the way. As we help you make space for the future

The Dream

Handsome Haulers isn’t just a junk removal company

— it’s the story of a dream shared by two young men from the area in real time.
Patrick, one of the founders, previously worked for and managed a similar company known as Rent Sons — now called Surv — a well-known local startup. After leaving that position, I dreamed of starting my own junk removal business, but at the time, I didn’t have the means to make it happen. So, the idea sat for years in the “Future Business Ideas” section in my notes app, waiting for the right moment.

I made several attempts to recruit family or friends to join the venture, but no one ever gave it more than a passing thought. Most had families, careers, or full-time jobs that made it too risky to leave on a whim. And honestly — I get it. Taking a leap of faith for your own dream is hard. Taking it for someone else’s dream? Even harder.

Until now.

A Partnership is Born

This is where Jake enters the story. Jake and I went to high school together from 2005 to 2008 at St. Andrew’s in Barrington, RI — but we didn’t truly become friends until about two years ago through similar interest, hobbies and having a like-minded way of interpreting the world around us as well as our role within it. Both on the same journey at the right time with enough availability to build a business. Seeing that we were already planning separately a way to break free from restrictions life puts on you by forcing you into the corporate world or working for someone else and their dream. Neither of us plans to ever return to the corporate setting unless we own it and if you know is corporate will not be the word we use as we are more of “fight the power” and “resist to comply” to what is “normal” type people. We are in the stage of our life where we are sticking to the mindset that failure is not an option. We would rather die than go back to it in the most dramatic sense. We also believe that life needs to be more fulfilling as we both crave more time for other life priorities: travel, family, building a legacy and freedom from debt, bills and retirement saving.

Not long ago, we launched a podcast called The Odyssey of Man on YouTube. The goal was to openly discuss the everyday challenges men face and to explore real-life opportunities for personal and professional growth — by getting out there, taking action, and documenting each experience as it unfolds. Today, many men are losing sight of who they are and who they’re meant to be. Society has conditioned them to believe they shouldn’t open up or talk about their struggles — a mindset that has contributed to an alarming and disproportionate rate of male suicides in this country, far higher than that of women. It’s why we started this vlog; to be a beacon of hope — a place where men can connect, relate, and grow. Our mission is to build a community of like-minded men who are rediscovering their confidence and masculinity through real conversation, shared stories, and bold challenges.

That podcast sparked a challenge: build something of our own and start a business. In other words, I basically hounded Jake for months, constantly saying, “Let’s do this! We can make it happen!” Until he caved and said “alright, let’s do it” and “I see the vision”. Once Jake was on board, I dove in — building the brand, researching the competition, planning out pricing, registering the business, applying for permits, and creating the logo and website.

Everything is still pretty raw — we’re funding this entirely out of pocket and doing all the work ourselves. Maybe down the line we’ll revamp the website and refine things to look more professional with a better design. But for now, this is what you get designed by yours truly. Oh, you also get two handsome guys with a lot of heart and a ton of willpower, creating something they can truly call their own. Breaking free from the pack to risk it in an all or nothing scenario. It’s basically a movie and you can watch us as it unfolds.

History and Experience

We’re no strangers to entrepreneurship — we’ve both been hustling since we were kids.

Jake holds a degree in Film and Journalism from Suffolk University. His accolades include over a decade of grinding six days a week in the auto industry, building a business of his own before this venture, and showing relentless work ethic that goes all the way back to middle school. He’s the one who puts the handsome in Handsome Haulers — with his chiseled looks, brute strength, and unwavering drive to create a better life for his daughter. I couldn’t ask for a better partner.

As for me (Patrick, or PBM), I bring over five years of experience in junk removal and moving, eight years in management, and another eight in project planning and business development. I hold a B.A. in History and Marketing from Roanoke College, along with an A.S. in Graphics, Multimedia, and Web Design from Rhode Island’s own NEIT. I may not be as handsome or as jacked as Jake — but I’m handsome enough to meet the quota for the brand’s sake. I’m also the guy behind the scenes doing the brainwork for the business by strategizing, designing, building the brand so we can capture the hearts and minds of Rhode Islanders all over the state through our big bright personality or at very least our looks haha.

the story begins

As of July 22nd, we’re officially live and active — fine-tuning the details before diving headfirst into marketing and promotion. Our name, Handsome Haulers, is catchy — and yes, we know it echoes College Hunks. But here’s the difference: they’re a national franchise focused on expansion. We’re local, personal, and grounded in quality and finesse.Their brand leans on the image of college students — which can be hit or miss depending on who shows up. With us, you know exactly what you’re getting: two grown men with the looks, the experience, better pricing, and the kind of charisma that might just sweep you off your feet. Best of all, the owners — that’s us — will be doing the work ourselves for the foreseeable future.Sure, bigger companies might have more manpower, wider availability, and fancier software. For now. But mark my words: once we’ve logged 20 to 30 solid jobs, we’ll be right back at it — teaching ourselves how to build, design, and implement systems that will put us shoulder-to-shoulder, if not ahead of, the competition.

Our Current Plan and Our Reality

We’re combining grassroots marketing tactics with digital ads — all filmed, edited, and produced by us. We’ll also be turning our customers into advocates by rewarding them for helping us spread the word. You’ll be able to follow our journey, from wins to setbacks, through raw, behind-the-scenes content on TikTok, as well as updates on Facebook and Instagram. We also plan to incorporate A.I. tools wherever possible — not just to stay ahead of the curve, but to uniquely set ourselves apart from the competition. And through it all, we’re committed to delivering A+++ customer service with a personal touch.

For the first few months, Jake and I will be handling every job ourselves — until the workload grows beyond what we can manage alone. At the moment, we’re still juggling our other flexible jobs, which means we aren’t available for bookings every day of the week just yet. We’ll be operating part-time to start, with scheduling done in advance based on mutual availability between us and our clients. You’ll be able to learn more about scheduling soon on our Book a Job page (currently in the works). In the meantime, you can request an estimate via email, phone, or by filling out the form on our homepage.

Our Goals for the future

Our goal isn’t to stay in the field forever — just long enough to master the process, refine our framework, and build a strong foundation for growth and scalability. We want to generate enough business to support Jake full-time so he can leave his other job and focus his energy here, as well as hire 1–2 part-time team members to join us.As for me, my current work is flexible and seasonal, so I don’t need to be full-time right away. I plan to attend as many jobs as I can during my 3–4 days off each week while managing operations and backend logistics remotely from my laptop. Once we’ve built enough momentum to bring on 2–4 additional team members, Jake and I will shift out of fieldwork to focus on branding, marketing, sales, and business development. We’ll also continue learning how to integrate A.I. tools to help manage, track, and organize our operations efficiently. To start, we’ll be hiring part-time local contractors — Handsome Rhode Islanders — with the intention of offering full-time roles down the line. Our starting pay will be higher than what our direct competitors offer and competitive across industries. If there’s one thing we’ve learned through our careers, it’s that many business owners — big and small — take their people for granted. They often fail to recognize loyalty, perseverance, and effort, which leads to high turnover and low motivation. We’ve been in those shoes, more than once. That’s why we’re committed to doing better — and being better — by creating a work culture grounded in respect, opportunity, and long-term vision. Our final goal during this startup phase is to become a household name in Rhode Island — more recognizable than 1-800-GOT-JUNK, College Hunks, or Junk King. These are national corporate franchises, but in a small state like RI, we believe locals should rally behind homegrown businesses like ours.

As for expansion, our only plans are to grow into select parts of Massachusetts — starting with the South Coast, then possibly Boston and the Cape. We have no intention of franchising or sacrificing our brand quality for the sake of going national. We want to keep our local, homegrown identity intact — while dominating our regional market with unmatched service and heart.
